Mind Your Step

Tom wants to go to the dance theatre, but the performance is sold out. Instead, he enters a virtual journey through German dance archives, which all in their different ways work towards the preservation of the ephemeral art of dance.

On the trail of the dance piece “Schritte verfolgen" (Following Footsteps) by Susanne Linke and VA Wölfl, he encounters methods and functions of documenting dance – methods, which reflect the specific examination of this branch.

With this film, the "Verbund Deutsche Tanzarchive" (Association of German Dance Archives), founded 2007 on the initiative of "Tanzplan Deutschland" (Dance Plan Germany), underscores a process of almost 10 years.

The archives have been leaving their organisational structures of private law and have increasingly approached the dance interested public. Dance archives – the trustees of dance heritage – now appear as partners of universities, galleries, schools and TV-institutions. And they are turning into an agile and moving homestead for the dance professionals in this country.
