Home Game: Presentation of the Dance Film Institute (Schauburg/Bremen)

Schauburg | Bremen | D
24.01.2008

Over the course of 20 years, the German Dance Film Institute has developed into Germany’s audiovisual dance memory. Now located in the Forum am Wall on Bremen’s Kulturmeile, it is an ambassador for Bremen’s traditional dance history and for German dance around the world. It exports lectures, internet databases and production services.

The Institute’s protagonists – Heide-Marie Härtel and cameraman Uli Scholz commented on excerpts from their various production formats. The Dance Film Institute is not only an archive, but also produces its own productions – excerpts were shown from the live recording, TV projects and DVDs.

The latest project of a “digital production manual” for choreographers was also presented. Productions are recorded, which facilitates the induction of new ensemble members or later revivals. The video recordings are mirrored: the dancers can thus copy the projection as if they were standing in front of a mirror. The report from the first project shows once again that the possibilities of using film are far from being exhausted.
