The existence of the German Dance Film Institute Bremen has been secured for another two years – and not a second too soon. We can thus conclude the year 2008 with a satisfying financial report.

This turn of events is due to the Bremen Cultural Administration, especially their representatives the privy council Frau Emigholz and the theatre consultant Dr. Siefken-Schulte.

On short notice, the Cultural Administration provided the lacking funds for 2008, thus preventing the institute’s imminent move from its new premises, which it occupied four years previously.

The coming two years are secured by a new financial basis, which will at least allow the fundamental archival work to continue.

The senate’s decision was reached after months of developing a new business model for the German Dance Film Institute Bremen, directed by experts from the responsible department of the Administration. This new concept succeeds in comprising both the increase in commissions due to the growing national impact of the institute and the increased costs for rent and personnel, as well as the changes in the landscape of TV.

The hitherto existing separation between archive and video productions as two bodies, which had been created due to reasons of public funding, taxes and personnel policy, has developed into an obstacle to the further development of the institute and will now be disbanded in several steps.

The institute’s staff want to use the financial security of the coming two years to work through the disproportionately grown inventory of the archive. New multi-media options will be created for online access to the material, and new models of co-operation with schools and universities in particular will be developed.
We wish all our institute’s friends a relaxing Christmas and a happy New Year.
